Healed by faith

Dennis Gurr

In the spring of 2007 I got back from Uganda from a short term mission with the Dundee Full Gospel Church and after a week I developed a red itchy rash on the inside of my arms and it spread to my legs, down my inside thighs and lower legs and it to me it looked like Dermatitis. So after a week of prayer and no change I began using E2 cream and after a week of no benefit I started to use an anti-itch cream which got rid of the itch, slightly, but not the ugly rash.

More personal prayer offered produced no result so I went to the local chemist, showed them the rash on my arms and they went for the heavy duty hydro-cortisone cream! This slightly reduced the rash but as soon as I finished the cream the red itchy rash was as bad as ever. So I went to the doctor and he gave me a prescription for yet another cream, can’t remember what it was called, and he said if it didn’t work I was to come back and see him again. Again whilst I used the cream there was a slight improvement but as soon as I finished it the rash was back as bad as ever.

So now I gave up the arm of flesh and prayer didn’t change things so one Friday prayer meeting I went forward for prayer but got carried away with the worship and never got prayed for! The following Sunday morning meeting I said to Kenny, my friend I help care for, I've got to get prayed for. I went forward and Graeme prayed for me and I was in total agreement!

I sensed the presence of God but thought I wasn’t healed so I sought God for an answer to my predicament and whilst I went over the notes of the message, ‘The power of the tongue’ God really spoke to me from: Mk 11:23; “  I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.

Now I had Kenny’s water baptism looming up and so the thought of going into the baptismal tank with him with an ugly skin disease wasn’t only undesirable it was also embarrassing and so now I was desperate! So I began to remind God of His word, (yeah, sounds stupid doesn’t it?!) "…  if two of you on earth   agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven ." Also ‘…by his wounds we are healed.’ and Psa 103:2-3 "  Praise the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases

Eventually I listened to Marvin Andrew’s testimony and he backed up every- thing Peter ministered to us from the platform so I started to thank God daily for healing me – though I declined to say anything to anyone until it was a reality. Then two weeks ago on Wednesday I woke up and the rash on my arms was gone and I looked at my legs and gulp! the rash was still there - but I knew God was healing me so I continued to thank him.

I shared this ongoing situation with Kenny, and I could see the rash on my legs was beginning to diminish, so he laid hands on me last Sunday morning and I thanked him for his silent prayer and whilst chatting with Peter one Sunday evening he prayed for me there and then and the following Wednesday the skin disease on my legs was completely gone! Praise our glorious God!

Had God healed me when I first asked him nearly six months ago I would not have learned to stand on His Word and declare his glorious promises.  He is completely and utterly dependable.
